Description
What is THCP?
THCP, or tetrahydrocannabiphorol, is a potent phytocannabinoid found in cannabis plants. It was first isolated and identified in 2019 by Italian researchers and is structurally similar to delta-9-THC, the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, but with a longer seven-carbon alkyl side chain, which enhances its interaction with cannabinoid receptors. This structural difference allows THCP to bind to CB1 receptors with approximately 33 times the affinity of delta-9-THC, potentially making it much stronger.
THCP is known for its psychoactive effects and is considered to be more potent than regular THC. It is found in trace amounts in cannabis strains, typically ranging from 0.0023% to 0.0136%.Due to its low occurrence in cannabis plants, THCP is often synthesized from CBD using advanced techniques like supercritical CO2 extraction and chemical conversion.
